Lotsa matzoh

Happy Passover!

Those of you who read my blog know how much I love to celebrate the holidays.  And usually I love to talk about the meaning of the holiday and all that good stuff, but when it comes to Passover, all I can really think about is one thing....

Bread.

You see, during Passover, it's forbidden to eat leavened bread.  Jews can only eat unleavened bread-- matzoh.  For those of you who haven't ever tried matzoh before, imagine a piece of cardboard.  Then imagine putting that piece of cardboard into your mouth.  Yep, that's pretty much what eating matzoh's all about.

Now, I know what you're thinking-- it can't be that bad.  Oh, but it is.  Every year, I say to myself, oh, it's not that bad, it's actually kind of tasty.  But I'm just fooling myself.  And those of you who are doubting me right now are totally fooling yourselves, too!!!

But, it's all about tradition, so we eat it year after year.  And what I really love most about the holidays is tradition.  Getting together with family and honoring those traditions that bind us to who we are and where we came from.  So while I may be dreaming about bread all week, I secretly enjoy the sacrifice and how it ties me to my family and other Jews.  Because that's what holidays are all about.

That and the food.

I still think this is all a big sham. As the story goes, when the jews were rushed out of egypt, they didn't have time to let their bread rise, hence the "unleavened bread" that we must endure for 8 days.

Well here's the thing, the bread they ate in egypt had yeast and flour in it. It just didn't rise. All the ingredients were there. So why can't we eat flat breads like pita?

It's all a scam I tell you.
